Two weeks ago Steven & I celebrated our 2-year anniversary. Since he & I are of differing locales, we decided to rectify the situation for Friday, September 21st through Monday, September 24th. So, off to Steven’s I went.
I arrived in Albany around 5, where Steven’s sister Lisa picked me up. (Side note: Steven is 6 years older than Lisa. This means that Lisa & I were born in the same year, though she was born several months before me. I happen to think that is awesome. I also happen to think she is quite awesome, and in case it wasn’t already flagrantly obvious, I also happen to love her quite a bit.) We then drove around looking for a place to eat supper for over an hour. Yes, an hour. We had wanted to find a restaurant somewhere a little outside Albany but instead managed to find our way from one bad town to the next, each one worse than the one before. Blood sugar levels crashing, we finally found an Uno’s and ate there. We proceeded to be served by, if not Paris Hilton herself, her identical twin. With that in mind, her as a waitress is much like you’d expect it to be – annoying. She would stop by to ask how things were, go get water for another patron, return to our table, apologise for not having been by for a bit and then ask if there was anything we needed. You to go away, please, so I can actually eat my meal. Thanks. I am not a particularly impatient nor curmudgeonly individual by any means, so I’m not entirely certain as to whether my blood sugar crash is to blame for her irking me so much or whether she was just inhumanly obnoxious. Either way, I would have happily promised her a 30% tip would she just let us eat our meal without interruption.
Lisa & I then drove the hour and a half or so back to Syracuse, arriving a bit before 10. She & I spent quality cuddle time together while I caught up with her mom. Steven showed up at around 11 and shortly thereafter we headed on our way to his place, which happens to be an hour and a half away from his parents’. By the time we arrived it was way past my bedtime and I had spent way too much time traveling that day. Needless to say, I was ready for bed.
We spent the first few hours of Saturday, our actual anniversary, by just relaxing, because we never do. We ate lunch at Applebee’s and then headed to the movies for a double feature, because me? Well, I like movies, especially back-to-back ones. And, since nothing says relational bliss like flesh-eating zombies (Some would argue that this is a perfect metaphor for love. Some being my other half.), we decided to see Resident Evil: Extinction. We both would like to emphatically stress that we like you, a lot, in fact. We like you so much we are telling you not to see this movie. Doooo noooot waaaatch. Bad, very bad, and not in a gory, too disturbing or immoral kind of way either (though certainly cases could be made on all 3 accounts), but in a, “I can’t believe I just paid money for this” kind of way. Well, I didn’t – Steven did – but I assure you he was uttering those words, doubly so since he paid for me as well. The movie just stunk. I liked the first two, but this one was just awful. There wasn’t much of a plot and not much was really accomplished by the end of the movie aside from feeling like a little piece of me had rotted in the duration. There was a part with a guy named Stevie that amused me momentarily, but for obvious reasons, and I assure you that those were the only 15 seconds in which I was entertained. For those of you who lack a Stevie in your life, you won’t even get those 15 seconds, and for you people I feel even worse. So, be kind to yourself. Do not go see this movie.
The second movie, however, redeemed the cinema & our day for us. We saw Good Luck Chuck, which was decidedly more befitting to the day. It was a very cute movie (with Jessica Alba!) and we both enjoyed it immensely. There is quite a bit of crudeness in it (What movie doesn’t have crudeness anymore?), but overall it was very cute and very sweet. Plus, it made Steven smile & laugh, and what could possibly be better than that??
On our way back to Steven’s we stopped by The Cheesecake Factory to get dessert for the evening. When we got back, Steven fixed us a delicious candlelight dinner (for which he suited up!), and we ate supper while listening to one of the CDs I made for him for our anniversary. After eating supper & dessert, we danced (with the candles as our light) to the other CD I made him for our anniversary.
Our Sunday consisted of sleeping in (Elatedness abounds!), going to Mass and doing work while watching movies & eating supper. Our supper on Sunday was also extremely delicious – salad with chicken, mandarine oranges & strawberries with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing.
Monday morning I left to come back to Boston and I have been missing Steven ever since. How many days left until Thanksgiving Break??
The few pictures we took on our anniversary can be seen here.
